LYON SHIPYARD, INC. is a full service ship repair facility
with over seventy-seven (77) years of continuous service to the U.S. Navy and
Maritime Industry in the Hampton Roads area.
We are located on seven acres of prime waterfront
property on the northern and southern shores of the Eastern Branch of the
Elizabeth River just minutes from downtown Norfolk. Our location is convenient
to the Chesapeake Bay, Intercoastal Waterway, Atlantic Ocean and the U.S. Naval
Base in Norfolk, which allows us to provide fast and efficient service to our
customers.
Our principal business is dry-docking, repair and
conversion of vessels up to 400 feet long and 2,500 long tons. We specialize in
pre-engineered conversions including structural, mechanical, electrical and
habitability installations and construction. We also make repairs to larger
vessels at anchorage, navy and commercial piers and other locations available
to us.
Lyon Shipyard currently holds an Agreement for Boat Repair with
the U.S. Navy and Master Ship Repair Agreements with the U.S. Coast Guard, the
U.S. Army, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and NOAA.
Additionally, Lyon Shipyard provides ongoing service and repairs to numerous
local shipping services on an on call basis. Lyon Shipyard meets and exceeds
the Quality Assurance requirements and Material Control Processes of Supship
Portsmouth, American Bureau of Shipping and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Our management team consists of 23 highly experienced
people with a combined total of over 450 years of shipyard experience. Our
management team which consists of the President, Vice President and all Department Heads meet daily to discuss
the progress of all jobs, identify any production problems and set priorities
for manpower, material status and facilities utilization.
Production Personnel
Lyon Shipyard Inc. employs a relatively stable year round work force of between
115 and 120 employees. Our ability to accomplish a good mix of U.S. Navy and
commercial allows us to maintain a very stable work force.
Lyon Shipyard, Inc. maintains a documented quality
control system designed and implemented to fulfill the requirements of
MIL-I-45208A, Navsea Standard Item 009-04 and all customer specifications as
written in contracts and work orders. The purpose of the quality system is to
ensure that manufacture and servicing of Lyon Shipyard, Inc. products are
planned and performed in a well - defined and controlled environment. The
system was designed to be flexible and as such provides for a means to perform
productive work for all types of customers including commercial and government.
The system and its procedures are regularly reviewed, revised as needed and
implemented to provide the required inspections and test to provide a quality
product for our customers.
Drug Policy
Lyon Shipyard, Inc. has established a supervisory and employee drug awareness
and education program, which concerns itself with the dangers of drug and / or
alcohol abuse, the implementation of our company policy, and penalties that may
be imposed for violations of this policy. We are adamant in maintaining a Drug
Free work environment.
